Lives and works in Bogotá, Colombia
Miler Lagos works in various medium including sculpture, installations and video on themes of environmental and political concerns, nature and culture. The artist repurpose materials such as rubber, formica, foam and paper. Using newspapers, clippings and books containing information about economy or history of art, matters that contribute to create a structured society, the artist superposes layers densely stacking, compressing, carving, sanding and grinding. All shaping processes are to deliver a reflective message about the essence of the material and the culture that has shaped it, turning it back to its original state, such as transforming piles of paper into hyper-looking tree trunks, Lagos often provokes the idea of reality versus copy.
