Lives and works between Barcelona and Mallorca
Amparo Sard’s work is an intimate reflection on human nature, on doubt and anguish in human beings. It is, to a large extent, an analysis on human existence, a plastic meditation about contemporary identity, always more uncertain and to redefine, between indecision and mistake. Sard employs the most poetic and effective technique to express human confinement: void on white. Through thousands of painstaking hand perforations, Sard enhances the conflicts and anguish caused by indecision. Her artworks have a muted and often neutral colour palette, which often makes the theme of piercing incredibly prominent in her images. By working with negative space and punctures, Sard develops a type of personal iconography that explores identity and femininity.
